Fanfic: Ice Queen
Title: Ice Queen
Series: Manga/Brotherhood
Word count: 1000
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Olivia Armstrong
Summary: They say she’s cold, heartless—a woman without any feeling but contempt. It doesn’t bother her; she knows you don’t get anywhere by showing weakness.

She remembered the day she left. Setting off with suitcase in hand, ready to make her own way; make her own life.

Her family watched her go, but she wished they didn’t.

She hated that life; known only as “the Armstrong’s eldest daughter”.

Olivia Mira Armstrong was going to achieve great things through her own efforts, and no one else’s.

“You won’t get any farther than a First Lieutenant at most.”

“Excuse me?”

The brunette shrugged. “It’s a fact. Women never get farther than that.”

Olivia pursed her lips. “Why not?”

“If you want to get far, you have to have certain…qualities. A leader of men has to be cold, stern, and inspire fear in the enemy. They cannot show softness or weakness. They don’t want feminine women—”

“Are you suggesting that I’m feminine?”

The woman let out a laugh. “Never you. But they won’t see it that way. You’d have to become a cold, heartless bitch if you want to get to the top. You think you can do that?”

Olivia Mira Armstrong only gave a calculating smile. “Watch me.”

She was an ace in combat tactics, as expected. One of the Armstrong line did not fail such trivial things. In leadership tests she was commanding, and stern. No mercy in her heart for enemies; no leniency for obstinate subordinates.

To be a leader of men, she had to be tough as nails; tough as a man.

Any womanly emotion that she might have felt would be swiftly stamped out.

Pretty soon she was described as “Lieutenant Armstrong—a woman tough and cold as ice.”

“Well…” he panted, leaning back on the pillows. “I can say it was very enjoyable being able to work under you, Lieutenant Colonel Armstrong.”

She gave him a sour look. She should have never agreed to meet Major Mustang. She might as well kick him out of her bed right now. “You should be grateful. This is probably your last chance to be with a woman before they ship your sorry ass off to Ishbal.”

It was just sex; just a need of the body. He knew that was all she wanted.

“You know, the rumors about you are false, Lieutenant Colonel. They say you’re all ice and barking orders; but I think you’re quite warm,” he smirked, running his hand up her bare thigh.

He was pushing it. “I suppose you’re going to tell me you like being ordered about in bed?”

He only gave a little laugh. “I like a woman that’s a tough shell to crack. She can show everyone a neutral and stoic face, but only I have the power to bring out her soft side.” Mustang smirked. “Perhaps I will be the one to discover the feminine woman under the shell of the cold, Lieutenant Colonel, eh?”

Olivia promptly shoved him off the bed. “Get out.”

There was a power vacuum after Ishbal. So many fine officers had been killed, and those who stayed behind found themselves in higher posts.

A promotion was always a good thing. It didn’t matter if a friend had once had that post—her name higher on the list made everything better.

They said she was truly heartless to take the rank of a good man killed in battle so willingly. It didn’t matter.

They didn’t need to know she took the job so no one had a chance to mistreat his men.

She gazed across the snowy landscape. The wind bit through her coat into her skin, but she did not shiver.

She didn’t get to be a Brigadier General by shivering.

“Well now, if it isn’t our new superior officer.” It was Captain Buccaneer, the man with the automail arm. He came to her smiling, and she wondered what he had to smile about.

You couldn’t keep Drachma at bay with smiles.

“I came up here to see you myself,” he offered an excuse. “They said we’ve got a heartless bitch in charge now, and I wanted to see if that was true.”

“Really?” It was hard to read this man. “And what do you find?”

He pretended to think a moment. “You may be cold, but you’re not heartless.”

“And how do you figure that?”

“The first thing you did was come up here, to get the lay of the land. You want to know this place, and the men. You want to know the best way to defend this fortress, with as few casualties as possible. Therefore, you’re not heartless.”

“Think what you like,” she shrugged, pretending she didn’t care.

Because what did it matter if she was cold or heartless? They were the same thing, weren’t they?

Everywhere else she was known as the ‘woman as cold as ice’. But here, her men took it with pride. She was their Ice Queen, their mother bear. Their fearless leader, always looking after her men. And though she continued to give glares like ice, kept a cold and harsh demeanor, she couldn’t help but sometimes smile at the thought.

Was it Buccaneer that started that? ‘Our Ice Queen’ indeed.

“Captain Buccaneer died with a smile.”

Olivia Mira Armstrong made sure to show no outward emotion, as always. She had achieved her post through years of calculated actions.

As a leader to her men, a woman without weak emotions, she had to carry on.

They called her cold…but the only coldness she felt right now was in her heart.

There was much to be done in this new world they had created. The Ice Queen of Briggs had new work before her—work that required a stern leader.

Every so often, she found herself looking out at the city, the people walking around. Still happy and alive. Buccaneer—and many others—had died to protect that.

Sometimes, a tiny smile came on her face—in this new world, perhaps some emotions were allowed.

Maybe it was time to stop climbing to the top, but stop and appreciate what she already had.

Dude... I'm now totally in love with the idea of Roy and Oliver having sex. And her being the dominant one. Thank you. XD

I TOTALLY believe that Olivia topped Roy sometime before Ishbal (because after that, Riza gets to top him!). They way they talk to each other seems to prove it!

Yeah that's why I love the idea so much-- because it totally could have happend, and it would explain alot.

Oh, and I came up with the cheesist/coolest idea ever:
Roy is fire and she is ice, so when they have sex they're, like, completing each other...? XD I don't know I just see Roy saying some snarky comment to her in bed about being the fire to her ice. Haha.

Oh and by the way, this may be annoying to you because you probably get asked this often, but when do you think you'll be done with chapter 7 of Sunshine After the Rain? Not to be a creeper, but I await it so much that, despite the fact that I don't even have a livejournal, I check yours everyday for it. XD

Soon. Within about a week and a half or so. Hopefully.

(I am on vacation and I really don't know right now. But I'm coming home in two days and will hopefully work on it then.)

Really nicely developed thoughts. Half-expected Armstrong to punch Bucaneer out to show him who's boss, but she really does use her strength well and consideratly. Sad for Bucaneer at the end, really great fic.
